Venereal Diseases
There are more than 20 venereal diseases that may be transmitted through sexual contact. There is a worldwide sexually transmitted disease epidemic right now. Most STDs occur in young people between the ages of 15 and 29 years. If untreated, some STDs can lead to infertility. Some other sexually transmitted diseases may lead to serious medical and health problems such as chronic hepatitis B, HIV and AIDS, and pelvic inflammatory disease.

Some people believe that they can tell if someone has an infection with one of these diseases. That is absolutely false. Anyone can get a sexually transmitted disease, regardless of the number of sexual partners they may have. The risk of getting a sexually transmitted disease can be decreased by the proper use of condoms.

It is a good idea to pay attention to your own body, and watch for the signs of an STD. With all STD infections, both you and your partner need to be treated with the proper medical care. If not, the disease will spread and both of you could develop serious medical conditions.

TREATMENT CAN BE PROVIDED BY:

  • the STD clinic at your local public hospital
  • Family Planning Clinics and
  • your local GP

The appropriate treatment for a sexually transmitted disease is a prescription medication. Home remedies do not work. If you, or someone you know thinks they may have an STD, get help now.
