Pilonidal disease is a skin infection in the crease between the buttocks. It occurs when hairs become embedded in the skin. This creates an abscess that is followed by the development of a cavity (called a pilonidal sinus) between the skin and tailbone. The cavity connects to the surface with one or more small openings. Recurrent infections and inflammation of the cavity may cause episodes of swelling, pain, and drainage.
A pilonidal infection occurs most commonly in - young, otherwise healthy males
Symptoms might range from a small tender dimple to a large painful abscess. Sitting may be painful. An abscess may produce pus that oozes from the site. THE ABSCESS MAY ALSO CAUSE:
